London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, Thomas Turrell, who is also a Councillor for Hayes and Coney Hall Ward, has written to the Metropolitan Police’s property team to ask that they refund parking tickets for the first week of enforcement on the Waitrose Access Road.
The Police begun long-awaited enforcement of the access road between the Police Station and Bromley South Station in the middle of November. However, many residents felt there was no notice of the enforcement. Thomas has asked that the Police consider these first tranche of tickets as a warning of the new enforcement.
Thomas said:
“Earlier this year, we were advised by the Police that enforcement would begin but no timetable was provided, despite us chasing it repeatedly. I am pleased the enforcement is now underway because the road was dangerously congested and this risked how quickly the Police could respond to calls. However, the lack of enforcement over many years means that many people did not know the restrictions even existed, so notice should have given when enforcement action begun. That’s why I have asked the Police to write-off any tickets issued in the first week.”
