Peter Fortune MP and Thomas Turrell AM have written to the Managing Director of Southeastern Railways to ask that the rail operator investigates installing a drop-off zone at Bromley South Station.
For a number of years, station users have used the access road to Waitrose as a drop-off zone. However, the road is owned by the Police and is not designed for this purpose, which has contributed towards traffic and congestion issues on the road. The Police have now begun enforcing the restrictions on the road with an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. This means drivers will receive a ticket if they drop off or pick up passengers on the road.
As a result, Peter and Thomas have written to Southeastern to ask that they investigate installing an appropriate drop-off zone at the station.
Thomas Turrell, who is also a Councillor for Hayes and Coney Hall, commented:
“Restrictions have always existed on the access road but they haven’t been enforced. This is no excuse for an appropriate drop-off zone never being installed. The Police have now begun enforcing the restrictions on their road because of the dangerous conditions being created by the congestion. That is why Peter and I have written to Southeastern to ask them to look into this urgently.”
